President Obama is not instilling that warm and fuzzy feeling

One Year In, The Overwhelming Focus On Matters Other Than National Security Leaves Us Less Safe Than Under President Bush

More popular as a country under this "leader" maybe, less feared perhaps and certainly not more safe. Viewed as weaker, as a caterer to all things left and an appeaser par excel lance. A great speechmaker, but not a great mover of world leaders to his point of view.

The direction and fate of the country is his now. No more of the crap about the country that he inherited. No more being able to place the failings of his administration at the door of the Bush administration. The intelligence gathering operation that led to a near tragedy over the skies of Detroit are courtesy of Mr. Obama, and his weak, inept, soft, misguided domesticentric (newly coined) administration.

Pakistani Christmas Reminiscent Of Kristallnacht

A Key Ally In The War On Terror

In a country that is predominantly Muslim, what is the level of tolerance this Christmas season for the less than five percent of the population that is Catholic or Protestant. In the city of Gojra, Christians are now living in tent camps due to the rampaging mobs that in August rioted in the streets, looted their homes and burned those homes to the ground. Eight died, seven from one family.

How safe are we?

Are We Proactive Or Still Reactive?

Two incidents on Thursday, the memory of one that occurred on December 7, 1993 and another earlier this week got me thinking about how secure, in a free and democratic society, that we can really ever be.

2012? With Our Leadership We Should Worry Today!

Relax Everybody: Healthcare Was Cleared For Debate In The Senate

Home from an Asian trip that was a waste of presidential time and taxpayer money, the President is back on his laser point of healthcare reform and Afghanistan procrastination, national security be damned.

Returning from his recent trip to Asia with very little to show for it, particularly from the Chinese, the situation with the Iranians continues to just float by as nothing is done, and our two main allies show little interest in doing anything, sanctions included.

Number 9, number 9, number 9, number 9, number 9

Remember The Beatles Revolution 9? Very Strange. Sorry, That Was Penny Lane
President ObamaCould Potentially Hold The Ninth Meeting On Afghanistan This Week
President Obama is off on his trip to the Far East, ready to come home to deal with the many items piling up on his plate: healthcare, the economy, Thanksgiving, Democrat fundraising, the environment, early Christmas shopping, you name it. Busy, busy schedule. Somewhere in all of that he will fit in his ninth meeting with his war council on the troop decision in Afghanistan. To date he has spent a good 20-30 hours with them. That 20-30 hours has been spread over many months (close to 11 in office to date), leading one to believe that this decision is not his number one priority.
He probably spends more time than that in a week lobbying for his healthcare bill. What message is this sending to the rest of the world, let alone his troops and the country.
Multiple Choice Problem

2012: An Article Of What Constitutes Off Limits In The New World

2012
The following article is a discussion of the movie which looks at the supposed end of the world in 2012. Within the movie there are depictions of the destruction of important religious icons around the world but for one religion. Why? The reason is fear. Not fear of offending because many of the pictures and scenes in the movie have the potential to offend one religion or another. No, it is fear of violent retribution. This poses a problem going forward, as the situation stands to only get worse.

Iran: What Credibility Do The Words Of This Man Have?

From The New York Homeland Security Examiner

Not Ahmadinejad But Barack Obama

I don't know about the rest of you, but the fact that Iran is running this show, making the international community look like fools on the subject of the nuclear armament of this rogue country is extremely troubling. It is unfortunately very obvious that Iran is going to be able to play out the string due to the United States lack of resolve and the double dealing of our negotiating partners.

(Fox News) "President Obama told Iran Sunday that the international community will not wait in perpetuity for the regime respond to a UN offer over its nuclear program. "We are now running out of time with respect to that approach," he said, sitting alongside Russian President Dmitri Medvedev."

Unfortunately, when the time comes that the patience runs out our next step will be sanctions in the hands of the impotent United Nations, along with our partners who will likely go back door to violate them. But first let's look at the time factor.

From The Picture Archive and A Rhetorical Masterpiece, Now What?

(Gothamist) "This ad for Pakistan Airlines is real. And in the history of advertising, it really takes the creepy cake. Even worse than babies endorsing cigarettes! Seriously, if Nostradamus ran an ad firm to warn the world aboutblowback, this would have been in his portfolio.
It appeared in the March 19th, 1979 issue of Le Point (and surely countless other publications). Yes, the shadow is in pretty much in the same place as where the planes hit on September 11th, and there's no way the shadow should be that big unless it's seconds away from hitting the towers...but we don't think this should evoke any conspiracy theories. Right?"
President Obama Gives Good Speech: Afghanistan Ad Nauseum

Afghanistan: Overseas Healthcare Operations

Author's Note: Although I understand that a great deal of focus is spent by me on foreign affairs and national security issues, the events at Fort Hood have shown that the United States faces threats not only overseas, but on our own soil as well. The phrase "Overseas Contingency Operations," coined by this White House was an attempt to deflect that reality so that domestic issues could become the priority. The reality is here and now.

We face a Global War On Terror, and that certainly includes the United States. There are people and groups that would like to see our society and way of life destroyed, and places like Afghanistan and Pakistan are ground zero for the development of the terrorists. We unfortunately have some of those same issues here. Let your representatives know that you are aware of where the focus in Washington should be. If the terrorists and countries such as Iran have their way, domestic issues will not matter.

If Only Afghanistan Could Be Renamed Overseas Healthcare Operations: Then It Would Get The Presidents Attention!

Until then, whatever decision is ultimately made will be done in dribs and drabs, fit in around a domestic agenda.

An Inglorious 30th Anniversary In Iran

From the New York Homeland Security Examiner

The More Things Change, The More They Stay The Same: Where Were You When...

Where were you when the Iranian hostage crisis began? I was a junior in college, and in the '70's the mind was on things other than international affairs. But this story hit home. Americans, on American "soil", attacked and captured by "students", police and the Revolutionary Guard who overran our Iranian Embassy under the direction of the Ayatollah Khomeni.

The Iran Crisis - America Held Hostage: Day 1 - 444

Night after night at 11:30, people would gather to watch that days events unfold surrounding these 52 hostages. As a college student I didn't realize the world view of Jimmy Carter, his weakness, indecisiveness and lack of resolve. His inability to make a move to free these American citizens, captured on American territory and held for weeks and then years made a mockery of our stature as a world power. It was an embarrassment on a grand scale, as our own citizens and leaders around the world came to realize the level of incompetence emanating from the White House.

Iran: Tail Wagging The Dog

So What Is Going On?

The IAEA is looking for a response while nations take a rhetorical hard line regarding the fact that the proposed deal on the table is the only deal and not open to negotiation. It is a rock and a hard place scenario, but not for Iran. For the boys who cried wolf in the form of the United States and other interested parties.

Remember the good old days of mutually assured destruction. You know, you lob one at us and we lob 3 at you. True, those were scary times because who really knew the pain threshold of the other side. Nuclear weapons were relatively new and unknown. Today they are no longer new and are totally known and understood. The nuclear club that had been the USSR and United States, two relatively sane nations, is now comprised of a multitude of countries, and God forbid organizations with no borders or a truly organized government infrastructure who have the clearly stated goal of destroying the west.

Foreign Policy In A War Zone Is Not A Soap Opera

Episode Number Six On “To Surge Or Not To Surge”

Not The Time, Place or Situation For A Soap Opera

On Monday, for the sixth time, the President met in the White House Situation Room to discuss whether or not to agree to the addition of troops requested by General McCrystal. General McCrystal, at the time of the request, painted a dire picture of how things would develop if the troops were not provided.  He also said that speed in the decision making process was critical. The word being provided is that the meeting Monday should not be construed to mean that a decision is imminent. The President wants to get it right and not fast.

All The News Considered Fit To Dispense

According To The White House That Is

What does it take to be considered a viable news outlet by the Obama administration? Put another way, what type of news delivery is considered to be welcome and what type is considered persona non grata in the White House press room? In the new way of doing business in Washington, to be welcome there is only one way to both gather and dispense the news; with blinders on the eyes, a government issue mouthpiece and/or muzzle, earplugs and a closed mind....

Iran Ratchets Up The Games In Vienna

Who Is Offering The Carrot and Who is Holding the Stick

Hard To Tell

The United States, along with our other negotiating partners, are in Vienna trying to cajole Iran to realize the errors of its nuclear ways. They are of course running up against a scenario that was more than predictable. President Obama has spent a good deal of political capital on his desire to utilize diplomacy as the weapon of choice against Iran. However, as discussed here ad nauseum, diplomacy requires two sides willing to work out a solution. Obama's number two option, sanctions, have as a stumbling block the fact that Russia and China have clearly indicated that they do not favor this choice.

Political Correctness Gone Wild

From The Political Commentator At What Point In Time To We Stop Apologizing For Being American?
In one sense, this argument does not rise to the level of other issues plaguing the Country today whether it be national security or domestic issues such as the economy or healthcare debate. On the other hand, when Americans are asked to deny their pride or repress their feelings of country for fear of offending someone who may not agree, where does it all end.

Does it end with the ban of holiday displays or by having multiple official languages? When is the line in the sand drawn where people say enough? I believe that we are getting extremely close, ACLU be damned.

Joe Biden, Your Source For Intelligence?

When Joe Biden becomes the administrations source for intelligent (intelligence) analysis, what does that say about the other players that are involved? The idea behind a presidents War Room is for him to get the down and dirty, nitty gritty truth about a crisis, consolidate it and make a decision. Those present are supposed to be some of the top minds that the country has to offer in different areas of expertise, having been chosen by the president for the quality of their thoughts and willingness to relate them. They are to relate honest opinion and strategy regardless of the anger they may incurr from the chief executive. They are there to do whatever it takes to protect and secure the American people and not their own hides. Period the end.

North Korea Wants A Little Attention Too

Iran is all about the nukes. Do they have them? What is their intention with them? Will they stop developing them? Will our "allies" support action against them? Diplomacy, sanctions or force? Will China go along with any of them? Will Israel be forced to take the nuclear installations out unilaterally? You get the idea. United Nations, IAEA and the Geneva Conference, it is all Iran all the time.

New York's War On Terror Over?

The Feds Seem To Think So

New York has plans to build a system designed to prevent a dirty bomb attack. Given the recent arrest of Najibullah Zazi, this would seem to be a high priority as the war on terror is alive and well and New York City is at the center.

Apparently in the porkfest that is Washington, the federal government is of the opinion that funding for this type of system is only half necessary, or potentially not necessary at all.

NY Homeland Security Examiner: Homeland Security: Decision By Omission or Commission

From The Political Commentator

The McCrystal Plan, The Biden Plan Or No Plan

Tick...Tick...Tick...

(JournalStar.com) "...The president "wants to be thoughtful, not rash," Axelrod told an audience at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

"Decisions will be (based) on facts, not instincts," he said, and will come after Obama has considered both civilian and military advice.

"We all ought to be grateful the president is taking the time to be thoughtful," Axelrod suggested..."

The country appreciates the fact that President Obama, newly minted Nobel Peace Prize recipient wants to be careful when making this crititcal decision. The problem, however, is twofold, one domestic and one international. The first is that a commander in chief needs to at least project the impression of being able to pull the trigger on policy. For the troops that he commands as well the country he leads, he needs to be considered a decision maker and not a consensus builder. For the international community, he needs to project an image of stregth, not weakness, or our enemies will take full advantage by pushing the envelope with little fear of any response.
